Joy for the World

Psalm 96:11–13

11 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. 12 Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy. 13 Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness.”

Creation itself rejoices at the coming of Jesus. Creation existed because of Jesus. His fingerprints are on every mountaintop, ocean floor, the song of every blue bird and the sunset at night. Creation witnessed His arrival long ago and has ached for His return ever since. We can read scriptures like Psalm 96:12, where the “Trees sing for joy” as offering, primarily, a poetic exegesis, but everything created was made to worship God. Joy is the rhythm of all that God redeems.

Prayer: Let my life join creation’s song of joy.
