Waiting in Hope

Psalm 130:5–6

5 I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. 6 I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.”

Sometimes waiting can be hard. Exhausting. Worrisome. Hours and hours fretting over questions without answers and prayers met with silence. But (and hear me out on this) there is something special about waiting. Waiting is revelatory. In essence, waiting reveals what we care about. It gives a window into what we hope for. Yes, we need patience, but sometimes impatience illuminates the path of what is to come. Much of waiting can feel like it’s “Always winter, but never Christmas” (thanks C.S. Lewis) but, my friends, Christmas IS coming. In the best possible sense, waiting doesn’t weaken hope, it deepens it. Like the dawn breaking after night, God’s timing never fails.

Prayer: Teach me to wait with expectation, not anxiety.
